Gone is the raucous, paper-strewn, adrenaline-driven auction market that once made the New York Stock Exchange famous. Today, the mood on the floor is quiet, the trading subdued. Reeling from the switch to electronic trading, brokers, clerks, and specialists—many who have worked 25 years or more at the exchange—are leaving in droves.

West St. Narrowed During Search for Human Remains
		Portions of West St. are being narrowed for about a month, beginning April 9, to allow the city to excavate under the highway and search for further human remains from the WTC attacks.

Request to Demolish Part of Landmark

Kent Swig, of Swig Equities, is seeking permission from the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission to “decertify” the landmark status of a rear wing of 25 Broad St., which would allow him to demolish it.

A Most Modern Dance
		A group of volunteers came to aTribeca loft last month to do an odd dance, lured by a mysterious posting on an online “Meetup” group, promising “big fun.”

Condos, Hotel to Replace Art Studios on Greenwich St.
		A developer bought 443 Greenwich last year for $115 million, and now plans to gut it for a hotel complex, with a ground-floor spa. The building has a long artistic legacy, and is a warren of studios.

Silver to Mediate Seaport Squabble
		Peck Slip is a contentious issue in the Seaport. Some residents clamor for grass and trees. Others argue for a stone ‘piazza.' Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has offered to help mediate the intractable dispute.

P.S. 89 Parents Take Lobbying to Albany

Armed with placards demanding smaller classes, a contingent of P.S. 89 families boarded a bus one morning last month and headed for Albany. By the end of the day they returned home, buoyed by the promise of a new Battery Park City school.

Raise a 'TOAST' to Tribeca Artists
