To The Editor:
Regarding the January article:
"At Tribeca Tower, Tenants Press Health Concerns" by Ronald
Drenger:
I am a tenant in Tribeca Tower, and I am writing to defend
Tribeca Equity Partners and Related Management for their actions since
September 11.
While the landlord gave us significant financial incentives to stay (20%
rent reduction for September, 25% for October, November and December,
and 10% for January), they also allowed anyone who wanted to leave to
break a lease with no penalty if he or she moved to another Related building.
The woman who moved to another related building and experienced a rent
increase obviously did so because this is a rent-stabilized building and
not because of the price gouging she implies.
Regarding the health and air quality issue and the statement by a tenant
that "There's been no clear analysis of what may or may not be in
this building," the fact is that the building has deluged its residents
with detailed information on air quality tests that have been conducted
on every floor of the building. They tested numerous apartments at random
and also accommodated everyone who wanted his or her apartment tested.
They have replaced the filters on every heat/air conditioner unit in the
building. They havedistributed to every apartment the test results in
great detail (one memo was over 10 pages) proving that there is no risk
within that building from asbestos or anything else.
Unfortunately we still have a self-appointed committee of busybodies who
insist there must be something wrong. The highlight of one communique
from the management was its response to a request that a particular type
of air filter be installed throughout the building. Their answer? That
this type of filter is not available for our type of ducts owing to the
fact that it was designed solely for use in operating rooms and contagious
disease wards. Clearly the committee's demands are excessive.
Yours sincerely,
Sara K. Heard
