New Park Board Members Elected

In balloting that was counted on March 17, five new board members and one incumbent were elected to the Washington Market Park Board of Directors. Seven candidates vied for the six positions, and the following candidates won: Liz Liebeskind, the incumbent (95 votes); Eric Steiner (89 votes); Karen Brodsky (87 votes); Bill Watson (83 votes); Sarah Cannady Chinn (72 votes); David Scott Drane (70 votes). Laurence Wasser, who also ran, received 59 votes. There were 115 votes cast in the election.

The election, originally scheduled for last November, was postponed due to the World Trade Center attack. The next Park Board election is due to be held this November.

The first meeting of the new board will take place on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in room N-655. Meetings are open to the public and non-board members are welcome to attend meetings and participate in the board's work, which includes oversight of the tennis and basketball courts and community gardens, and planning of park activities.
