Solos by each of the dancers, joined by Virginie Victoire Mécène, will also be presented. New P.S. 234 Principal Chosen

Though Anna Switzer is leaving P.S. 234 after 11 years, there will still be a familiar face in the principal’s office next September.

Sandy Bridges, who taught at the school for six years before departing last June, was chosen last month to be Switzer’s successor.

Bridges has returned to the school to serve as assistant principal for the remainder of the academic year. She will take over in September as Acting Principal, and can be named as permanent director after a requisite one-year review.

“You have no idea how excited I am,” Bridges said in a phone interview. “I just love that school. I was so happy there as a teacher.”

She said she has no plans to make major changes.

“I want to continue what Anna has been doing,” she said. “The school works beautifully, it’s phenomenally well run, and my mission is to continue that.”

Bridges said she will “observe and learn” during her transition to principal, particularly in new areas of responsibility such as hiring teachers and trying to foster an intellectually charged work atmosphere.

“As principal, you need to have a broader view,” she said.

Bridges, 35, left P.S. 234 last year to become program coordinator (essentially an assistant principal) at Midtown West, an elementary school on West 48th Street.

Switzer was chosen to head the Tweed Academy, the new school being created at the Tweed Courthouse on Chambers Street, where the city’s Department of Education is now based.
