Tribeca Business Group Brings 4 March Events to Downtown

This month the Tribeca Organization kicks off its “Tribeca Thaw,” a series of four Spring events that include a gospel concert, a singles’ mixer, a career day seminar for high school students and a gardening workshop for families.

The first event, a Gospel Concert featuring the Bobby Lewis Ensemble from the Harlem’s Central Baptist Church, is slated for March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Tribeca Rooftop, 2 Desbrosses St. Tickets are $15 online at www.tribeca.org or $18 at the door.

A Singles’ Night Mixer will be held March 12, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at the Tribeca Grand Hotel, 2 Sixth Ave. There will be a screening of “Shakespeare in Love” and cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served before and after the film. Tickets are $35 online at www.tribeca.org.

A free Career Day Event, designed to introduce New York City high school juniors and seniors to Tribeca and Downtown businesses, is set for March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at New York Law School, 57 Worth St. The event includes a free lunch and a “dress for success” fashion show. Participants must pre-register through a school guidance counselor or the Tribeca Organization.

A hands-on Gardening Workshop for children and adults is set for March 27 at Pace University, 1 Pace Plaza. The time will be announced on the organization’s website. Tickets, which can be purchased online at www.tribeca.org, are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

The Tribeca Organization was formed shortly after the 2001 terrorist attack to revive local businesses.

Although few area businesses are directly linked to this month’s events, the group’s executive director, Sharon-Frances Moore, said that the activities would help the business community by creating “neighborhood awareness” and “an increase in foot traffic.”

“We’ll have Tribeca maps available. We’ll be suggesting they eat at a Tribeca restaurant,” she said.

The events spring from a $350,000 branding and marketing campaign supported by New York’s Empire State Development Corporation and the September 11th Fund.

Along with the planned events, the group is overhauling its website and has commissioned consultants to come up with standards for marketing local events and businesses.
