Among Junk, Costly Play Equipment Lies Untouched
In a far corner of Washington Market Park is the toddler’s equivalent of buried treasure. With all the shovels, chicken wire, sheets of plastic and other junk piled around it, you would never know that thousands of dollars worth of all-wood, custom-made play equipment lies in the heap, untouched by children’s hands.

A Playful Past
From tin soldiers to keystone cops to a collection of firefighters battling a toy tenement blaze, more than 200 items are featured in “Child’s Play at the Seaport,” a collection of old-time toys on view at the museum through December.

A design competion for a kiosk planned for Battery Park City brought high-concept and even higher-tech proposals.

Buygones: Past Sartorial Elegance for Sale.
A shop at the corner of Greenwich and Watts Streets is one of the few places in the city where a man can outfit himself from head to toe (or pork pie hat to pointy shoes) in vintage style.  “I’m not in the game of the ‘comeback’ or ‘the trend,’”  shop owner Jae Jarrell said. “When it comes to being ‘in,’ this is not the place to provide that.”

This Tourist Arrived by Water
When Diana dos Santos arrived for work at the River Project on Pier 26 in Tribeca on Feb. 28, she was surprised to find that she had company. A seal was lounging peacefully on the floating dock on the pier’s south side.

New North Cove Operators Look Ahead To First Season
Michael Fortenbaugh, whose newly formed company now has the lease on the North Cove in Battery Park City, said it could take years to rebuild the Cove’s reputation as a premier stop for well-heeled world travelers. On May 1 he told Community Board 1’s Battery Park City Committee about his plans for running the cove.

Social Security
As President Bush made a stop across the river in New Jersey to tout his controversial plan to privatize Social Security, Senate democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer and John Kerry, made their case Downtown on March 4 that the real threat to the social program was that it was in danger of being dismantled.
