Apply For Ballfield Permits
The Battery Parks Conservancy, which maintains and manages BPC's ballfields, is now accepting applications for spring and summer Ballfield Permits. The fields are scheduled to open on May 1, and permits are required for groups of ten or more people wanting to reserve a playing field for softball and soccer. A limited number of spring and summer permits are available and will be considered on a space available basis. (Applications for fall permitst are due on July 1.)

Bait Your Hooks
The Battery Park City Parks Conservancy is looking for volunteers for their Marine Education Program. Volunteers, who need not be experienced, will assist with catch-and-release fishing events held in May, June, September, and October.
Events take place on select Saturdays and Friday lunchtimes. There is also a Tuesday and Friday morning public school program. Marine Education volunteers will be trained in fishing techniques and learn about the Hudson River estuary. For more information, call 212-267-9700, ext. 355.
Route 9A Meeting
The State Department of Transportation will host an open house on March 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. to share information on the latest developments in the West Street Promenade and Promenade South projects. School Registration
Spring registration for the 2007-2008 school year begins this month.
Battery Park City residents can registration for P.S. 89 from March 12 to March 23, from 9–11 a.m. Parents must bring their children, along with birth certificates, immunization records and official proof of address. For information, call 212-571-5659.
P.S. 234 registration takes place from March 12 to March 22, from 9–11 a.m. Go to www.ps234.org for zoning and other information.
P.S. 150 registration runs from March 12 through 16, by appointment only. Parents must come to the school on March 5 or 6 to make an appointment. They must also have gone on a tour of the school, and bring the tour date with them to register. For information, call 212-732-4392.
Art Curation Series
“The 2007 Riverhouse Curator’s Series,” featuring speakers with expertise in collecting and maintaining art collections, will begin on March 7, with gallery owner Becky Smith, who will share tips on working with a gallery to build a contemporary art collection. Other topics in the series include collecting limited edition design (March 17), assembling a collection from scratch (March 21), current practices in contemporary art (March 28), and developing and maintaining an archive for a collection (April 4).

Help African Orphans
Rising Sun Village Partners, a local organization dedicated to helping children orphaned by AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, will hold a benefit on April 1 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Community Room at Independence Plaza, 310 Greenwich St. Proceeds from the event will go toward building a learning center near Lake Victoria, in Uganda. The benefit will include a silent auction of donated arts and crafts, including ancient Chinese coins, a Moroccan leather shoulder bag, an antique baby chair, and decorative gourds. Easter Egg Hunt
“The Great Easter Egg Hunt” takes place March 31 at Washington Market Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event, sponsored by Mosaic Manhattan Church and The Journey Church, is free to all and will take place rain or shine. The Easter Bunny will be on hand, and there will be games and crafts. The hunt itself begins promptly at noon. For more information call 212-730-8300.
