May 29: Celebrating the Italy-Tribeca Connection

The Italian-Tribeca connection will be celebrated with a fundraising dinner and auction on May 29. La Famiglia Tribeca will be held at Tribeca Rooftop, at 2 Desbrosses Street, at 7:30 p.m.

Truffles and other specialties of local Italian restaurants will be served, followed by a silent auction of items donated by neighborhood restaurants, stores and artists, as well as by artisans and stores in Florence.

Among the items to be auctioned are paintings by Sophie Matisee and Jeannie Weissglass, a king-sized Alpaca blanket from Stella, family passes to Manhattan Children’s Theatre, clothing from Brunello Cuccinelli Menswear and Pal Vileri, and a one-month membership to Equinox Fitness.

Tribeca will also get a sister. Pre-party festivities will feature a Gemmelaggio, or “twinning/sister city” ceremony between Florence and Tribeca.

Eighty percent of the event’s proceeds will go to Manhattan Youth. The remainder will be donated to the Tribeca Organization. To volunteer or make a donation, call Chris Boeke at 212-431-1314.

Tickets are $50. Patrons’ tickets are available for $125 and include the Gemmelaggio ceremony and prosecco toast at 6 p.m.

The first La Famiglia Tribeca was held in November 2001 to accentuate the spirit of community and promote Tribeca businesses and artists in the wake of the terrorist attack.
