Police reported two robberies, one at gunpoint, in Chambers Street subway stations within less than a week.
On Sunday, Sept. 19, around 5:15 a.m., authorities said three men approached a 21-year-old man on the “A” and “C” platform. One brandished a gun while all three took the victim’s cell phone, belt, debit card and credit card before fleeing, police said.
Five days earlier a 19-year-old man became the victim of a robbery that began in the Chambers Street subway station on West Broadway and continued at the TD Bank down the street, authorities said.
According to police, two men approached the victim on the platform around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and told him, “Get over here, give me all your money or I’ll hurt you.” The victim gave them $100 in cash from his wallet but the men said they wanted $2,000. The victim went with the robbers to the bank at 166 Chambers Street, corner of Greenwich Street, where he handed over an $800 withdrawal from the ATM machine. After the men demanded more money, the victim went to the teller window where the teller saw he was “in distress” and asked if he was ok. At that point, the robbers fled.
Police describe one suspect in the first robbery as “dark complexion, 5'8" tall, thin build, short dark curly hair”; the other 6' tall with a thin build,” and last seen wearing a black du-rag, a black surgical mask and a black graphic t-shirt. Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline, 1-800-8477.
