Bernie Williams and Band at Schimmel Center
Bernie Williams in performance.
Bernie Williams and His All Star Band is coming to Pace University's Schimmel Center on Oct. 12 with their fusion sound of jazz, rock and Latin rhythms.
Growing up in Puerto Rico, the former Yankee star learned to love music along with baseball. By the time he was eight, Williams already was captivated by the sound of flamenco guitar, spawning an attachment to the instrument. (His father, a merchant marine, brought home records from travels to Spain.) Off the field during his 16-year career with the Yanks—in the clubhouse or on team flights—he found time to play.
A recent graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, the three-time All Star has recorded two albums. The first, "The Journey Within" in 2003, made it to Number 3 on Billboard's contemporary jazz chart. "Moving Forward," debuted at Number 2 and wa nominated for a Latin Grammy.
