Police hope that surveillance video (below) will help them catch burglars who two nights in a row broke into the construction offices of 50 West Street, the 740-foot-high residential tower nearing completion.

In the first haul, on Jan. 24, police say that two men entered the construction entrance on Washington Street at 9 p.m. and left through the same entrance an hour later. They tried and failed to break into the office on the second floor but succeeded in making their way into the office on the third floor, where they lifted two computers and a camcorder, along with keys, according to police.

The next night, at almost the same time, police say two men entered the closed offices on the second and third floors and took nine computers and two iPads worth nearly $19,000. On the second floor, according to police, the burglars cut a hole into the dry wall with a crowbar and climbed through the wall to enter the office. On the third floor the air conditioner was knocked onto the floor from its wall mount.
