Downtown Alliance Grants to Cultural Groups
In an effort to help Lower Manhattan cultural organizations during the pandemic, the Downtown Alliance announced on Monday that it is giving $10,000 individual grants to 11 local non-profits. They include: 9/11 Memorial & Museum, 9/11 Tribute Museum, Battery Dance Company, China Institute, Fraunces Tavern Museum, Gibney Dance, the Museum of Jewish Heritage, Poets House, Skyscraper Museum, South Street Seaport Museum and Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation.
"For centuries New York has been defined by our arts and culture," Downtown Alliance President Jessica Lappin said in a statement. "No economic recovery will be truly successful without finding a way to support the cultural growth we've witnessed take hold in our neighborhood over the past several years."
The grants are part of an Alliance program that has awarded more than $600,000 to over 60 small businesses this year. That help has included the transforming of many business storefronts into COVID-compliant retail spaces, and setting up restaurants with a commission-free ordering service.
The Alliance funding is supported by Brookfield Properties, Silverstein Properties and Howard Hughes Corp.
