Downtown Connection Buses Have Resumed

The Downtown Connection free bus service, suspended since Nov. 23, resumed on Jan. 3 with a new operator. Deteriorating service and complaints from riders led the Alliance to drop its previous operator, an Alliance source said. The new operator, the Alliance said in a statement, “shares our commitment to providing a superior service. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

The Downtown Alliance had first announced the service would resume on Jan. 15.

For the past 15 years, the buses have provided free transportation between the west side of Lower Manhattan below Chambers Street, including Battery Park City, and the east side, terminating at the South Street Seaport and making 36 stops along the way.
