Tribeca's Gourmet Garage, the much anticipated food store that was announced early this year for an end-of-year opening, will not be arriving until late next spring, according to co-owner Andy Arons.

In an email to the Trib, Arons said he is being asked daily when the 8,500- square-foot store at 366 Broadway—the sixth in the chain—will open.

He and partner Adam Hartman have been "waiting patiently" for approvals from the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Buildings Department, Arons said, adding that he has no complaints about the city's handling of the process. "The agencies actually have been quite cooperative and returned paperwork with questions and comments in a timely manner," Arons said.

"Plans to convert the space into a 'scratch' kitchen and fresh food marketplace are complex, so the process takes some time," Arons wrote. "We are almost there, and hope to begin construction in November with a late Spring opening planned."
