Chanting “No ban, no wall, New Yorkers for all,” protesters poured by the thousands into The Battery on Sunday, Jan. 29, joining huge rallies in Brooklyn and cities around the country to decry President Trump’s executive order on immigration from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Immigrant rights advocates and elected officials from New York and New Jersey spoke to the gathering, which ended with a march to Foley Square.

“We are not backing down from our airports to the courts to the streets and we will continue to fight for justice and freedom,” shouted Rep. Nydia Velasquez.

Sen. Charles Schumer called the executive order “a mark of shame for this country,” and Rep. Jerrold Nadler summed it up in five words: “Unconstitutional, illegal, un-American and immoral.” Then he paused. “And stupid.”

Below are some sights and sounds from the rally.
