POLICE BEAT: FiDi Armed Robbery; Nasal Strip Theft Leads to Assault

78 Reade
Jan. 7, overnight

A man seen on surveillance video carrying a flashlight swiped $100 out of the cash register of Modern Martial Arts. There were no signs of forced entry at the fitness center.

 

25 Broadway
Jan. 6, 9 p.m.

A thief stole $420 and a credit card from three men’s lockers at Planet Fitness while the men were exercising.

 

97 Warren
Jan. 5, 4 p.m.

A woman’s $500 Kate Spade bag was taken from the back of her chair in Barnes & Noble while she and her husband left it unattended to purchase a magazine. The perpetrator, described as a man in his 50s with a scruffy beard and wearing a grey coat, was seen fleeing west on Warren Street. The woman’s bag contained credit cards, a driver’s license and $600.

 

West Broadway and Leonard
Jan. 3, 6 p.m.

Two Danish tourists placed their bag on the sidewalk before looking down at their phones. A thief made off with the bag, which contained Hugo Boss jackets valued collectively at $1,200 and $900 in cash.

 

165 Church
Jan. 2, 12:55 p.m.

A man walked into Korner Jewelry store and lifted two pairs of diamond earrings, valued collectively at $2,500, from a display case.

 

Nassau, near Beekman
Jan. 2, 1 a.m.

A man in his 20s is under arrest for robbing a 32-year-old man at knifepoint with two accomplices who got away. The men followed the victim from Nassau to Beekman streets, where they threw him to the ground and stole his iPhone and wallet. The wallet contained credit cards, a driver’s license and a Metrocard.

Jan. 2, 12:20 a.m.

A burglar caught on surveillance video forced open Obao Noodles & BBQ’s front door with his shoulder and stole $1,700 from two cash registers. He was seen in the video wearing Latex gloves and carrying a backpack.

 

146 Beekman
Dec. 30, 8:30 a.m.

A man posing as a city sanitation officer threatened an employee of Fresh Salt with a summons for not properly cleaning his storefront. As the exchange took place, the perpetrator’s accomplice, also posing as an officer, swiped $400 from underneath the register. The restaurant was closed at the time of the theft.

 

E train, World Trade Center station

Jan. 1, 2:55 a.m.

A 71-year-old man is under arrest for removing an iPhone from a sleeping passenger’s hand. The phone was recovered from the thief’s jacket pocket.

 

313 Canal

Dec. 28, 9:47 a.m.

A food cart vendor left keys running in the ignition of his van while unloading his cart. A perpetrator then drove off in the van and headed west on Canal Street.

 

250 Broadway

Dec. 26, 11 p.m.

A man entered Duane Reade and removed three packs of nasal strips, totaling $40, from the shelf. He hid the merchandise in his pants and jacket and then attempted to leave the store with an accomplice. When confronted, the man with the hidden items struck the victim on the left side of his face, causing lacerations. The victim told police that the robber had told him he had a knife. Both perpetrators fled north on Broadway.

 

2 train, near Fulton Street station

Dec. 24, 10:30 a.m.

A thief snatched a smartphone from a 28-year-old woman’s hand as she was riding a northbound train. The woman fought with the man to try to get her phone back but was unsuccessful.

 

135 William

Dec. 24, 12:24 a.m.

Three men who appeared to be in their early 20s entered an elevator with a 26-year-old man. When the elevator door closed, one of the men displayed a knife and said, “Give me what you got or I will kill you” while the other two perpetrators forcibly removed belongings from the victim. The thieves then fled on foot in an unknown direction with $1,520 in stolen items, including two smartphones, $400 and credit cards.

 

Leonard and Broadway

Dec. 21, 10:30 a.m.

A woman realized that her $800 Reed Krakoff handbag was missing from the passenger’s seat of a pickup truck that she had been loading with boxes. Inside the bag was close to $1,000 in belongings, including debit cards, a smartphone and keys.

 

30 Water Street

Dec. 18, 11:35 a.m.

A thief swiped a man’s wallet from his jacket pocket while the victim was dining at The Dead Rabbit. The man noticed that his pocket was unzipped when retrieving his jacket, which he had stowed on a shelf while eating. The wallet contained a credit card, a driver’s license and nearly $300 in cash.
