Tribeca’s PS 234 has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. The “exemplary high performing school,” led by Principal Dana Rappaport, is one of 325 schools across the country to receive the annual honor, and one of six in New York City.

PS 234 is among the schools that garnered the award based on overall academic excellence as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. Others are recognized for their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

“This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
