Where to Donate About Anything Downtown

The Downtown Alliance has published a much-needed guide,  "A Directory for Donating Just About Everything."  It includes ways to recycle clothing and textiles, electronics, books, toys and much more.

Many of the sites are in Lower Manhattan: St. Margaret’s House Thrift Shop (49 Fulton Street) accepts all types of items; Center for Hearing and Communication (50 Broadway), takes healthcare goods; Court Appointed Special Advocates (48 Wall Street), and Educational Alliance (197 East Broadway), will accept arts and crafts supplies.

There is also a map published by DonateNYC showing places to give away just about anything in neighborhoods across the city. You can filter by location and category, including baby goods, books, food, personal hygiene, toys and food.

As the authors of the directory note,  "New Yorkers throw out 200,000 tons of clothing every year, and much of that could go somewhere more useful than the trash."
