Are you going to the Taste of Tribeca? Here’s a sneak peek of what you’re going to be seeing, all from the head of the event, Claude Arpels. If you want to know which restaurants will be there on May 21, or what’s going on behind the scenes of the Taste of Tribeca, read on!
This year, 67 restaurants are participating. Six of those are new: Blue Marble Ice Cream, Maman, Gunbae, Hank’s Juicy Beef, Rosa Mexicano and Two Hands. Gunbae will be serving Bulgogi (beef) rice cup, Hank’s Juicy Beef is offering Italian beef sandwiches and Two Hands has their gluten-free banana and walnut bread with espresso mascarpone, puffed buckwheat and honey.
Seven restaurants have been with the Taste of Tribeca the entire 22 years. Bouley is one of them. What are they offering? That’s a surprise! Another one is Bubby’s, which will be serving Bubby’s BBQ pulled pork sliders. Duane Park Patisserie will be offering molten chocolate cake and Gigino will be offering Pasta e Fagioli and Cavatelli alla Positanese. Next, we have the Odeon, serving their homemade, all natural ice cream. Tribeca Grill is keeping their dish a surprise as well. Last, but not least, actually, the most popular restaurant, Walker’s! They will be serving their pulled pork sandwiches.
According to Claude, there “never has been trouble convincing restaurants” to partici-
pate in the Taste of Tribeca. He thinks that joining this event demonstrates that they are contributing to the schools, while also making them look and feel good by simply being a part of the neighborhood. The sponsors also help pay for the event, by giving money and donating money to the schools.
What can we expect for kids this year? The Kids Zone is located in Duane Park. There will be face painting, a martial arts demonstration, a clown and the sports zone. On the stage, kids from the Church Street School for Music and Art will be performing. There may be Cynthia Syer and/or the TriBattery Pops. (Claude does not know yet.)
Taste of Tribeca is full of food and happiness. It seems impossible to choose what your favorite part about this wonderful event is. But Claude knows his. “It’s a real neighborhood event,” shares the dad of Maud and Philomena. “It includes kids and parents from both schools, restaurants from the neighborhood, businesses from the neighborhood and hungry people from all over the city.”
