The Hillbenders, from Springfield, Missouri, will perform "Tommy" on March 25 at the Schimmel Center.
Forty-five years after its original release, The HillBenders, a bluegrass band made up of banjo, dobro, mandolin, bass and guitar, will perform the classic rock opera "Tommy."
Composed by guitarist Pete Townshend, it is the story of a deaf, dumb and blind boy. The original album has sold 20 million copies and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for “historical, artistic and significant value.” In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Tommy number 96 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
