Weinstein Was Back in Tribeca, This Time to Surrender at the 1st Precinct

Former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein returned to Tribeca Friday morning, this time to the 1st Precinct on Ericsson Place where he was booked and led away in handcuffs.

Amid shouts of “Harvey” from a throng of photographers and reporters penned behind metal barriers, Weinstein surrendered to detectives at the station house before being taken to his arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court on Centre Street where he faced charges of rape in the first and third degree and criminal sexual act in the first degree.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office and the NYPD related to allegations made by two women. One of them, Lucia Evans, said [1] Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him at his Miramax office in Tribeca.

Weinstein was released on bail of $1 million and will wear a device that tracks his movements 24 hours a day. He must surrender his passport and get special permission to travel outside of New York or Connecticut.

The former powerful producer did not enter a plea. “We believe at the end of the process Mr. Weinstein will be exhonerated,” his lawyer Benjamin Brafman told reporters after the arraignment, noting that his client “vigorously” denies the charges.

“I thank the brave survivors who have come forward, and my Office’s prosecutors who have worked tirelessly on this investigation,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said in a statement.

"Twenty years ago, I swore that I would right this wrong,” actress Rose McGowen, who accused Weinstein of assaulting her in 1997, told Variety. “Today we are one step closer to justice."

Weinstein's is next due in court on July 30.
