A dozen days after Harvey Weinstein surrendered for arrest at the First Precinct in Tribeca, the former movie mogul returned Downtown Tuesday morning, this time to State Supreme Court where he pleaded not guilty to multiple charges.
Since first appearing in court on May 25, the day he was arrested, Weinstein has been free on $1 million bail. Last week a grand jury indicted him on first- and third-degree charges of rape against one woman and third-degree sexual misconduct that involved forcing another woman to perform oral sex on him.
Again, Weinstein faced a phalanx of photographers as he labored to exit an SUV, then walked with a slight limp alongside his lawyer Benjamin Brafman as the two entered the courthouse for the brief arraignment.
Afterwards, Brafman reiterated his client’s claim of innocence.
“He denies the allegation and as terrible a case as rape is,” Brafman said, “it is equally as reprehensible to be falsely accused of rape.”
Weinstein is due back in court on Sept. 20.
