Months-long shutdown begins Monday, Sept 24
Tribeca’s popular playground on Pier 25, near North Moore Street, faces a months-long shutdown, beginning Monday, Sept. 24. The area will be closed for an undetermined length of time while the play surface is replaced and repairs are made to the drainage system, Madelyn Wils, president of the Hudson River Trust, told a Community Board 1 committee on Monday.
“It’s all weather dependent whether it can be fixed by the winter,” she said. “It will be open this spring for sure, but I can’t tell you how long it will be closed because you can’t do this in rain or below 40 degrees.”
“It’s to everyone’s benefit that we do this as fast as we can,” she added.
The playground had been rebuilt after its surface was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
