From tearing down moldy walls in the Seaport to bringing donated items to BPC Cares in Battery Park City, volunteers have been providing a crucial role in storm recovery Downtown and surrounding hard-hit areas. Many more volunteers will be needed in Lower Manhattan—and across the city—in the days and weeks ahead. Here are ways to help:
• A three-course meal and concert by Basya Schechter and Pharoah's Daughter will be served up at Kutcher's, 186 Franklin St. from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Nov. 18. $72 for adults and $36 for children, with 15 percent of proceeds going to the United Jewish Appeal's Sandy Relief Fund. Reservations at 212-431-0606. • Seaport businesses will continue needing volunteers, particularly skilled electricians and anyone with construction skills. Email volunteer@newamsterdammarket.org [1].
• The Chabad of Tribeca is coordinating volunteer days and collecting winter coats, warm socks, blankets and wrapped children’s toys to distribute to impacted areas across the city. Donations can be dropped off at 54 Reade St. between noon and 5 p.m. daily. Email info@chabadoftribeca.com [2].
• Douglas Elliman Tribeca, 90 Hudson Street, is collecting basic necessities for hurricane victims. For details, call 212-965-6000.
