POLICE BEAT: Arrests in FiDi Assaults, Purse Tossed in Trash

76 Chambers Street
March 3, 2:15 p.m.
A 24-year-old woman’s purse was stolen from the back of her chair at the Blue Spoon Coffee Company. Police recovered the purse in a garbage can outside the establishment, but the woman’s wallet, containing $1,650 in cash and two credit cards, was still missing.
111 John Street
March 2, 11:30 p.m.
Two assailants were arrested after they allegedly attacked two men and stole a wallet from one of them.
Arthur Rowland, 21, and Rosendo Mendoza, 24, went inside the 7-Eleven and asked to speak with an employee. When the 19-year-old employee met them outside, Rowland, Mendoza and another assailant allegedly slapped his face and the back of his head, asked, “What do you have in your pockets?" and attempted to grab his wallet. The perps fled empty-handed. The victim suffered a laceration on his eye, requiring stitches, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Minutes later on Pine Street at William Street, Rowland, Mendoza and the other perpetrator allegedly punched a 22-year-old man in the face, displayed a knife and snatched his wallet. The attackers claimed the victim owed them money, police said.
Rowland and Mendoza were charged with robbery in the first degree and attempted robbery in the second degree, according to the DA’s office. The other robber got away.

March 1, 2 p.m.
Someone swiped a Brazilian tourist’s bag when she left it on the back of her chair inside Aroma Cafe. The bag contained $1,000 in cash and a camera, valued at $500.
Fulton and Nassau Streets
Feb. 28, 2 p.m.
A man snatched a 27-year-old woman’s phone as she got off the A train on the southbound platform, police reported. Police arrested Kadeem Romain, 18, inside the station.
247 West Broadway
Feb. 27, 9. p.m.
A 37-year-old man told police that he left his MacBook, iPad and computer bag unattended in Tribeca Tavern for two hours, and when he returned, the items, worth a total of $2,250, were gone.
