Finn Square's 'Friends' Seek Funds to Finish Beautification with New Fence

Friends of Finn Square has been doing much in recent years to beautify and care for the small, triangular oasis of green at Franklin, Varick and West Broadway. Adding to those improvements, the city recently repaired the sidewalk around the park. Now the non-profit group needs financial help to complete its improvements.
Part of the aim of the new fence is to discourage dogs from entering the garden. “We aim not to make it impossible for them but to send a stronger message of disapproval,” Jessica Raimi, another member of the group, said in an email. “Our proposed fence would still let people cross the garden at the midpoint where they do now,” she also noted.
By Dec. 1, the group hopes to raise the estimated $43,500 needed to do the work and have a fence that they said in a statement “meets standards for comparable downtown parks, such as Tribeca Park and Duane Park.”
Donations can be made through the Friends of Finn Square website or by sending a check payable to Friends of Finn Square, c/o Jessica Raimi, 6 Varick Street, Apt. 7A, New York, N.Y. 10013.
